The recent death of footballers Aaron Tyler and Andrew "Jet" Johnson have placed a cloud over East Miskatonic's otherwise sterling reputation. Turns out that these two were contracted to throw the latest game by the mafia, but despite their best efforts (walking off the field shortly after the game began depriving the team its two star players), the E. Misk. U. team managed to tromp the competition. This failure placed both players on the Mafia's hit list, quickly evidenced by the gunfire heard shortly after the end of the game. An interview later that night confirmed these details.
Johnson was found in the remains of a destroyed house in the East side of town; known locally as a house of shady repute. The body was extremely burned, as if Johnson was located at the center of the blast that leveled the home. Neighbors claim that they believed the storm was responsible, as they claimed that a bolt of lightning hit near the building in question. No others were in the home, but these same neighbors also report seeing persons fleeing the scene; one of whom appeared particularly injured. While this may be a plausible story, a description from the following police report notes that Johnson's death was due to organ failure and suffocation, not to burning.
As for Tyler, his death, as reported by the school, was due to the storm, apparently resulting in bodily mutilation so severe as to warrant a closed casket funeral. Assumptions are made that this is likely a cover-up by the school in an attempt to obfuscate that Tyler's demise also due to Mafia action than natural causes.
As the involvement of two leading stars of East Miskatonic with organized crime comes to light, we must ask whether this is just the tip of the iceberg.
